Huawei presented its new smartphones Huawei P30 and P30 Pro during a special event organized today in Paris, with particular attention to the European market, one of its most important after the Asian ones. The Chinese company is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world after Samsung and before Apple, but in recent times it has come under the attention of the media and governments mainly due to allegations of spying on behalf of the Chinese government by the United States. , in the construction of the new high-speed 5G mobile networks. Huawei has long rejected these allegations, for which no concrete evidence has yet been produced, and sued the US government which blocked the sale of its products. Today's presentation was entirely dedicated to the two new phones, which will compete directly with Apple's iPhone XS and Samsung's Galaxy S10.
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro
The smaller model of the two smartphones presented today, the P30, has a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels. The screen has a minimal bezel, but still breaks off for a few millimeters at the top to accommodate the front camera.
The larger variant, the P30 Pro, has a 6.47-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels. The screen has no bezel and is slightly curved at the edges.
Both phones have a sensor below the screen for fingerprint recognition, to unlock them without having to enter the code. An amplifier for sound reproduction has also been inserted under the screen, which according to Huawei offers greater fidelity than classic systems, usually placed sideways.
Both smartphones are dust-insulated and water-resistant. They are available in light blue (“Breathing Crystal”), orange (“Amber Sunrise), white (” Pearl White “), black and blue (” Aurora “).
The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro use a Kirin 980 processor from Taiwanese company TSMC and a dedicated graphics card, especially useful for 3D processing. The P30 has 6GB of starting RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with an additional card. The P30 Pro instead has 8 GB of RAM and is available with 128, 256 or 512 GB memory depending on the configurations.
The Android 9 Pie operating system is installed on both devices, with a graphical interface and some additional features installed by Huawei.
Camera
In recent years, Huawei has shown that it pays particular attention to the cameras in its smartphones, especially the most valuable ones. The development of the cameras is carried out in collaboration with Leica, the historic camera manufacturer in Germany.
At the rear of the P30 there are three different cameras: one 40 megapixel, one 16 megapixel with wide angle and one 8 megapixel for zooming up to three optical magnifications. The phone can use the various cameras in combination to create an image.
On the new Huawei P30 Pro the rear cameras are instead 4. One 40 megapixel, one 20 megapixel with wide angle, one 8 megapixel and an additional camera with 5-magnification zoom lenses. This solution allows you to take photographs of distant details, with a more satisfactory result than normal digital zooms, even if the rendering is not always very sharp. Both sensors can use a combination of their optical and digital zooms to achieve further magnification: the P30 up to 30, the P30 Pro up to 50.

The sensors of the cameras are larger, therefore predisposed to collect more light. A “high sensitivity” system allows you to take photographs even in poor light conditions (ISO 409600).
Battery
Both models have batteries with enough capacity to last all day. The P30 has a 3,650 milliampere-hour battery, while on the P30 Pro it is 4,200. The difference is due to the greater availability of space on the second model, being larger, and at the same time by the need to power a larger screen. The P30 Pro's battery charges to 70 percent in about 30 minutes with the quick charge feature.
Competition
The new Huawei P30 and 30 Pro will compete with the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 + presented in February and recently on sale also in Italy. Samsung is the first smartphone manufacturer in Italy and alone covers about a third of the entire market, thanks to numerous agreements with telephone operators for the sale of its Galaxy series models and more. They are followed by Apple and Huawei close to par, with around 25 percent each of the market. Huawei has significantly increased its presence in Italy, thanks to a policy of more advantageous prices, made possible by the renunciation of high profit margins.
Prices and availability
The Huawei P30 smartphone is available in Italy from today at the starting price of 799 euros, while the P30 Pro at the price of 999 euros.
