The US Supreme Court has given a favorable opinion in an antitrust lawsuit against Apple involving its App Store

The Supreme Court of the United States has given a favorable opinion on the continuation of an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, by a group of users of iOS, the operating system of iPhones and iPads. In their case, they argue that the 30 percent commission applied to the sale of applications – provided by Apple in its App Store – weighs directly on consumers, constituting an unfair exploitation of a dominant market position held by the company. According to Apple, lawsuits and accusations of this type could only be brought forward by those who produce the applications, and not by users. The case had been brought before the Supreme Court, which has now ruled in favor of the users. The continuation of the lawsuit could have numerous repercussions for Apple, which obtains a large portion of its billion-dollar revenues from App Store sales.

Following the announcement by the Supreme Court, Apple released a brief statement in which it claims to be optimistic about a resolution in its favor of the court case. The company also dismissed the accusation that the App Store is a monopoly, noting that any developer is free to set the selling price for their applications without interference from Apple.
