The Word clip comes to life in Microsoft Teams, but not as you expected

The Word clip comes to life in Microsoft Teams, but not as you expected

If you used Word in the 90s you met the Office Assistant , an animated being who appeared when you least expected it to help you with your documents. The most popular was Clipo, Clippy in English, an animated clip that became famous for asking you if you were writing a letter. A victim of ridicule and criticism, Clipo disappeared in 2001 when it was no longer available in Office XP. But Microsoft Teams has rescued it from oblivion.

The Word clip died of success , like so many other Microsoft products and icons. Ahead of his time, Clippy one of the first virtual assistants . Of course, without artificial intelligence or voice recognition as today. It was something more rudimentary. Hence, he always asked the same thing.

Interestingly, two years ago Microsoft Teams brought Clipo back in the form of stickers on the Office development page on GitHub. That is, if you talked to someone in a chat you could add stickers of the mythical Word clip. However, the invention did not last long and disappeared again due to internal company decisions.

A well-deserved tribute in Microsoft Teams

But let's go back to the present. Microsoft Teams has become one of Microsoft's most popular applications thanks to the pandemic, as it has forced companies, organizations and individuals to make video calls and communicate from a distance . Along with Zoom , FaceTime and Meet , among others, Teams is now a word that sounds on the lips of many when it comes to talking to someone miles away.

In 2019, Clipo returned to Teams as a sticker. But someone at Microsoft didn't like the idea. Source : The Verge The fact is that, as with the competition, Microsoft Teams allows you to use virtual funds to enrich a video call and, incidentally, hide the clutter of your room or house.

In an effort to make things easier for the user, Microsoft has launched this summer a new virtual fund package for Microsoft Teams with the apt name of Nostalgia . Here you will find all the theme packs that Microsoft provides. When the page asks you, do not change from English to Spanish because the funds are not available in the Hispanic version of their website.

A reunion with the Word clip

To get the Microsoft Teams fund package that includes Clipo, just click on the link Download images , under Nostalgia , and you will download a ZIP file that includes some of the icons that have made Microsoft famous.

Among them, the Word clip stands out, named Clippy in English and Clipo in Spanish. And it comes to life in three dimensions and with a more modern look. But there is more. You will also see them with the Windows XP background and with the Microsoft Paint . Another victim of recent Microsoft changes. The fourth guest of the collection of funds for Microsoft Teams is Solitaire, although it has had a better life, since you can find it out there in multiple versions.

As explained in the official Microsoft 365 blog, it is not that they want to recover Clipo as part of Microsoft 365, the Microsoft applications designed to work in the cloud.

But apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to put Clipo behind you in your Microsoft Teams video calls. Yes indeed. Don't expect him to move, make noise, or ask if you are writing a letter. But, at least, there it will be, returned from oblivion in a wink, joke or tribute for the most nostalgic of Microsoft .

Change Microsoft Teams background

The backgrounds Nostalgia that Microsoft gives away, including Clippy / Clipo, the Windows XP background, Microsoft Paint and Solitaire, are available in JPG format and in high resolution: 1920×1080 . Perfect for large screens and for HD video calls .

You can use these funds in Windows or in any application. And if you want to use them as the background for your Microsoft Teams video calls, before a video call, you will have to go to Background filters , below the video image that you will see while configuring video and audio. Background options are displayed on the right of the window.

To replace the background with an image you must click on Add new and choose one of the available ones. Microsoft Teams offers some but you can use any JPG or PNG image from your computer, as is the case with the background pack Nostalgia .

If you want to change the background during the call or meeting, in the controls go to More actions> Apply background effects and then Add new , as we have seen before.
