WS02 is the small Bluetooth 4.0 speaker by Thomson characterized by a fascinating vintage look, by a contained shape that practically fits everywhere and by a very comfortable leatherette handle in the narrowest places.
The name he brings as a dowry, Thomson, is quite heavy, especially for those with a little white hair and reminiscent of the golden years of Hi-Fi and cymbals for vinyl, where the brand was one of the undisputed leaders.
Now the market has definitely changed and with it the products, but Thomoson's desire to keep the attention of customers is there is, as we could see in our report a few months ago at the Italian presentation.
Light but unmistakable style
Lightweight, white in color (but also in Pink, Silver and Black), it is basically a tile where in one of the larger sides there is the grille for the diffuser and at the top buttons for control. On the side there is the connector for charging with Micro USB and the one for analog input.
The controls are dedicated to volume / playback, Bluetooth pairing (but there is also an NFC chip for Android smartphones, although it did not seem very responsive to us) and when switched on.
The leatherette handle is certainly an ornament, but on balance it is very comfortable: used in the kitchen, we hooked it to the towel rack, as well as in the garden to one or some storage hooks, so that it doesn't get wet.
The look is a mix of minimalism, with a hint of fifties radio , albeit with smaller dimensions. Women will certainly like it more, both in terms of the shape (which fits in the handbag) and for the handle, excellent for housewives and in general for those who work in cramped environments.

WS02, the “Somewhere over the rainbow ”of the speakers
Unlike what one would expect given the name, WS02 is not a speaker for audiophiles, nor for kids who love boosted bass: simple making and delicate musicality make it a 12 W speaker more suitable for background music, very suitable to accompany you in the office, in the garage, in the garden more than as the protagonist of a birthday party.
The highest frequencies are kept delicate, but the lack of heavy bass here and there makes you feel: Jitterboog ie by Michael Hedges played well, while in Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N 'Roses something was missing, Baba O'riley from The Who held up well as did Elton John's Rocket Man, while for an important listen to songs like Tell Me Now by Hans Zimmer and Moya Brennan or Orinoco Flow by Enya perhaps something else is needed (perhaps Thomson's most powerful model, the WS03).

Nice response instead in the audio of Film and above all Telefilm, where it is certainly better than the internal speakers of the iPhone and iPad, and which guaranteed a better response in all the video tracks proposed, from the personal shooting to the last “Resident Evil: Vendetta”, seen on the iPad and Mac with Thomson audio (great 3D but the texture is a bit weak).
In our imagination we see the WS02 as the “Somewhere over the rainbow” of the speakers, a nice, light, interesting model which on the one hand does not have important positions but on the other a little for the price and a little for the shape it is well suited to be used to listen to the radio, a playlist in the background, or the audio of a film .
