When we took the Tribit X1 case out of the box we thought: they are as pocket-sized as the AirPods. And in fact the dimensions are more or less those: 4.4 x 2.1 x 5.4 cm for the Apple charging case, 4.5 x 3.2 x 4 cm that of Tribit, therefore lower but slightly more chubby, centimeter plus centimeter less.
And the secret is all here: a convenience that those who own AirPods know well while those who have never had them have always wanted. Finally here it is, with Tribit X1, a valid alternative to the most famous Apple earphones that do not miss anything. In addition to the high pocket size, they offer excellent sound performance, good autonomy and Bluetooth 5.0, for those who do not want to give up the latest technologies. We tried them for a few days and we fell in love with them: we tell you our experience.
How they are made
The earphones
The biggest difference with AirPods is in the shape and way they wear. The Tribit X1 earphones are in fact small, light and are blocked in the ears by means of some in-ear rubbers (in the package there are three different sizes to adapt them to your ear cavity). The comfort is not at all the same and it is not even easy to wear them on the first try: they must be looked at to trace the letter L (left, left) or R (right, right) to understand which ear they should be inserted into, because in fact they can be in any case to wear in one or the other without perceiving strange discomfort.
They have the charging contacts in sight and a button on the outside to control music playback, accompanied by a hole for the microphone that allows you to use them also in hands-free phone calls (even individually, for those who prefer to keep a watchful ear on the road).
The charging case
Black, in satin polycarbonate for the main structure, glossy and semitransparent for the lid, thus allowing a glimpse of the charging status of the earphones inserted inside it, the charging case is characterized by strongly rounded edges. Like to touch it and hold it in your hand, it seems to have a small jewel in your hand and the magnetic closure is an appreciated finish that avoids accidental opening of the lid, whose weak point seems to be in the joint that holds it attached to the case: the impression is that it can break if you bend it forcefully outwards. We say thank you, therefore, to the small magnet that holds it closed when we put it in our pocket.
On the back there is an uncovered microUSB port that allows you to recharge the internal battery and, consequently, the earphones connected inside. Earphones that are attracted into the appropriate housing through a powerful magnet. Each opening is tailor-made for the relative earphone, so it is impossible to mistake the insertion and the consequent recharging.
How they go
If aesthetics and materials make us like them right away, it is impossible not to love them when they turn on and start to use them to listen to your favorite music. The audio quality is really excellent, with a three-dimensional rendering and full of all frequencies. They play really well and with any musical genre, offering an excellent perception of piano and strings in classical music, making the voice loud and clear when present and managing to load the bass in songs where their presence is essential.
In short, they are really versatile and can be pulled out on any occasion: from workouts in the gym to company music for commuters or improvised relaxation on the sofa. They also go well with phone calls: the microphones do a great job from the point of view of cleaning the sound, especially when we are outdoors in the middle of traffic. The interlocutor told us to perceive our voice in any case “loud and clear”, even when using only one earphone. In fact, one of the comforts lies in the possibility of pulling out only one to answer a phone call and leave your hands free to do something else (like driving or cooking).
Conclusions
We believe that comparison with the AirPods made in the opening makes sense to exist when they are compared from the point of view of pocket and Consequence of convenience, although the more expensive Apple headsets are still the preferred choice especially for Apple users today. Recognition, pairing and daily use in fact still remain undefeated features by the AirPods in comparison with any other true wireless headset due to the high integration between hardware and software.
However, the Tribit X1 do not look bad. The first pairing is easy (just take them out of the charging case to turn them on and make them recognizable by the Bluetooth devices nearby) and the following ones are almost immediate. Just take out one earphone to use it from the next few seconds, if you take out the other one you can see, recognize and pair, activating the stereo.
This can be done at any time and in both directions. If while listening to music from the smartphone, the latter begins to ring, you can safely put a headset in the box and answer the call with the single left in the ear. At the end of the phone call, you can press Play again, resume the other headset and return to immerse yourself in stereo music. Everything happens naturally and without having to perform particular reactivation or deactivation operations.
