Tribit XFree Tune review, headphones with soft over-ear pads

Home Reviews ,,,,, A few days ago the Tribit XFree Tune headphones arrived in the editorial office, of the over-ear type and characterized by large and comfortable pavilions that offer good soundproofing from external noise by completely sealing the ears. There are no weird or very modern technologies, but they work well and give excellent music reproduction.

How they are made

The headphones are built entirely of polycarbonate with soft-touch coverage, very pleasant to the touch but a real magnet for fingerprints. Just touch them a little to get them dirty and if your fingers are dirty or greasy it becomes necessary to rub them with a cloth to bring them back to the starting condition. The visual effect is beautiful as the black color appears opaque and level, but for those who buy them the maintenance will not be little.

The moving parts are made of aluminum, a material that we also find in some details such as the finishes of the pavilions or the printing of the internal labels on which the letters L and R are shown to recognize the headset from the right, replicating what is already printed in the internal fabric. which protects the drivers. The inside of the headband is also built in aluminum and you can look at it more closely by pulling the pavilions outwards, an operation necessary to move them away from the headband and adjust them to the size of your head.

The feature that is most appreciated in these headphones and that could actually entice the purchase towards the Tribit XFree Tune rather than in other over-ear headphones concerns the padding of the pavilions. It is very thick (in the release position the edge measures almost 3 centimeters) and it is very soft, more than other padding that we find in competing headphones. This is probably some memory foam blend, although we don't know for sure as the manufacturer doesn't specify it.

The result, however, leads to very soft and really comfortable earpads, especially if you wear the headphones for several consecutive hours. The ear is completely enveloped and there is room for even rather large ears, offering a very good natural soundproofing while largely keeping out external noises. Right now we are wearing them for the umpteenth time without playing any music and already so the clicking of the keyboard of our MacBook appears faint if not almost absent.

The same type of softness is also found in the padding of the headband, which however is less thick but still sufficient to ensure good comfort when wearing headphones. As for keys and buttons, there is only the power button on the front edge of the right headset and the volume rocker on the rear one. On the bottom there is instead the hole for the microphone and the microUSB socket for battery charging, well protected by a rubber cap, while on the bottom of the left headphone there is the 3.5 mm audio jack socket.

How are they doing

The audio quality is overall good and in line with the price range on which the Tribit XFree Tune are positioned. Clear and crystalline highs, full-bodied mids and lows present represent a brief description of the sound reproduction, even if in comparison with higher quality headphones the audio track is slightly closed and muffled. Trying to listen to the same song here and on a pair of headphones with active noise cancellation (which cost about 30 euros more) the difference is especially noticeable in the three-dimensionality of the sound, which the Tribit XFree Tune instead seem to suffer from the lack.

Apart from this small comparison which is obviously unbalanced due to the different price range of the two headphones, as mentioned, what actually strikes the Tribit headphones is the comfort in prolonged use. The soft and enveloping pavilions make you forget you are wearing them and it is not a bad idea to wear them – even without listening to music – to reduce ambient noise during a nap on the sofa.

Conclusions

Tribit XFree Tune, we repeat, are excellent both from the qualitative point of view of the materials and from that of the audio reproduction in relation to the price, currently 46 euros on Amazon, for which they are proposed. The greatest value lies in the “analog” soundproofing and in the comfort of the pavilions, but beyond this the headphones also amaze for their autonomy: over 40 hours of continuous playback with a full charge (4 hours to recharge the battery from about 10% to 100%) which become endless hours if they are connected via cable to the audio source. They are then sold with a practical, semi-rigid carrying case. The only flaw is the smell of the materials: as soon as you discard them they give off a bad smell of plastic and leather-like, keep this in mind if you have to give them away. If, on the other hand, they are for you, you can considerably reduce it by leaving them in the open air for a few days.
