Among the accessories that a computer enthusiast should not miss, surely there are the adapters from SATA / IDE to USB. These devices are handy in a variety of situations, especially when you need to connect hard drives, SSDs, and other peripherals on the fly to recover data using Mac and PC. There is no need to unscrew screws, insert the disk from which we have to retrieve data or to which we have to access in an external box: just connect it on the fly with this converter, retrieve what we need and at the end disconnect the cables. We have had the opportunity to try various products of this kind and the latest in the series is UGreen’s USB 3.0 to SATA / IDE Converter. Below are details, features, and our field tests.
Package contents Inside the package we find: the actual converter (a large box about 10x6x1.5cm), a 1m black USB 3.0 cable type A / A, the power supply (110 / 220V, 12V), a power cable for the hard drives (1x 5.25 ″ male on one end and 1 × 3.5 ″ female on the other end), and a manual (or better, a leaflet with instructions). The converter is small and light (fits in your pocket) and integrates various connections on the sides. On the back, we find: on/off switch, input for power supply cable, USB 3.0 port, connector to connect the power cable for hard drives; on the right side we find the connector for 3.5 “IDE disks, on the left side the SATA connector, in front of the connector for 2.5” IDE disks. On the upper part, there are three blue LEDs that indicate access to the various types of disks.
