We know how much Google cares that Chrome is considered a cross-platform browser . We saw it two years ago with the introduction of the “ Send tab to yourself ” function that allows you to share the contents we are viewing on Chrome desktop with our Chrome on the phone or on other devices .
As spotted by Redditor Leopeva64, it appears that Google is implementing version 2.0 of this feature with major changes to the notification system on both the desktop and mobile versions. On desktops, the most important change is the receiving experience . Version 2.0 no longer relies on computer system notifications for accessing cards, instead, sent cards will appear as a small icon between the address bar and the account picker like you can see from the GIF below.
It may seem like a minor novelty but it is important because with this change we don't have to worry about seeing the Chrome notification buried under other system notifications or other programs, or worse not seeing it in the everything because maybe we prefer to have system notifications turned off. Chrome for Android is also undergoing similar treatment . Google is testing in-app notifications in favor of system notifications that appear only when the browser is opened .
On Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS and Android, the new feature can be activated by enabling chrome: // flags / # send-tab-to-self-v2 on the latest version Canary of the browser, version 93 . On Android, you can download it via the Play Store or directly on APK Mirror. Just keep in mind that this version of Chrome is anything but stable and is not recommended for everyday use.
