WhatsApp already allows you to transfer your chats from iOS to Android, although for now it is limited to Samsung smartphones

After a long time of waiting, WhatsApp will finally allow you to transfer your chat history from iOS to Android. Of course, at the moment this function has a great limitation: the migration can only be done to Samsung terminals . However, the world's most popular messaging service promises that it will soon be possible to do so to any device regardless of manufacturer. It is also expected that in the future it will be possible to transfer from Android to iOS.

This feature, which for several years was one of the most requested by users of the platform, was announced at the beginning of August. From that moment WhatsApp made it clear that, initially, the transfer would be limited from iOS to Samsung terminals. In fact, the announcement was made minutes after the conclusion of Samsung Unpacked, an event in which the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 were presented.

“One of the functions that users requested the most was to be able to transfer their chat history when they switched to a phone with a different operating system. Well, the WhatsApp team, the developers of the different operating systems and the device manufacturers We have been working hard to create this function and make it safe and reliable “, WhatsApp mentioned in a statement.

How to transfer WhatsApp chats from iOS to Android

The transfer will include all your chats and their content . That is, text messages, audios, images and videos. From WhatsApp they ensure that they will not have access to the data while the migration process is carried out. Likewise, it is necessary that the receiving terminal, in this case the Samsung one, has Android 10 or higher . WhatsApp, meanwhile, must be updated to at least version 2.21.160.17 on iOS and 2.21.16.20 on Android.

Another key point to keep in mind: to start the process, the Samsung smartphone must be new or just refurbished . In this first stage, the transfer of chats will be carried out through the Samsung Smart Switch application and with a Lightning to USB-C cable (it also works with adapters):

Turn on your Samsung mobile and connect it by cable to the iPhone. The aforementioned app will open. Scan the QR code displayed on the new device (Samsung) with the iPhone camera. Touch “Start” on the iPhone and wait for the process to complete. Continue configuring your new Samsung terminal. When Get to the home screen, open WhatsApp and log in with the same phone number you used on the previous device. Touch “Import” when prompted and authorize the process to complete. Finish activating your new device.
