WhatsApp has postponed the entry into force of the new privacy rules to 15 May

The new terms of use of WhatsApp will no longer enter into force on February 8, as previously communicated, but on May 15 next. WhatsApp did know:

“We are postponing the date on which we will require our users to review and accept the terms. On February 8, no accounts will be suspended or deleted. We will continue to work to clarify incorrect information regarding security and privacy on WhatsApp. Gradually, and according to the timing of each, we will invite our users to review the information before May 15, when the new business options will be available “.

WhatsApp wrote that their recent update created concern and the postponement was decided to be able to give the right explanations on the new terms: “Since the circulation of incorrect and untruthful information has caused concern, we want to clarify and make sure that everyone understands the principles we rely on. “

We will make sure users have plenty of time to review and understand the terms. Rest assured we never planned to delete any accounts based on this and will not do so in the future.

In the rest of the world, indeed, some of the changes that require approval may be a privacy concern. But in the European Union these changes do not apply. EU citizens are protected by the GDPR, the European regulation for the protection of personal data, which is one of the most advanced privacy laws in the world, and Facebook, like many other internet companies, is forced to treat citizens of the EU in a different (and basically better) way than all the others.
