Wiko View 3 is the latest mid-range smartphone from the company, which aims to crowd out the competition with an affordable price, and a triple-camera rear multimedia configuration. Not only that, the terminal aims to be a champion of autonomy, thanks to a 4000 mAh battery, assisted by a display and a processor that require little energy. Here's how our test went.
Wiko View 3 offers a plastic frame, which on the one hand helps to keep the weight low, despite the generous dimensions of the device, but on the other hand, remember that it is a low cost terminal. To consider that, at the moment, on Amazon it costs just 155 euros in its 64 GB + 3 GB RAM configuration. Nevertheless, the Wiko View 3 looks good, elegant and minimal, discreet, but with a good assembly, which is also noticeable in the side keys of the volume rocker and power / stand by button.
Considering the price range, the frames are well optimized, even if the lower one is quite evident: in any case, the screen / body ratio is good, and stands at 80%. Satisfactory for such a cheap smartphone.
Performance
To move the terminal is the MediaTek Helio P22 MT6762, together with the 3 GB of RAM. The processor integrates eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, with four cores up to 2 GHz, and two more energy efficient ones up to 1.5 GHz. The integrated graphics card is a PowerVR GE8320k, which has a clock speed of 650 MHz. . This data translates into performance similar to that seen on smartphones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 450.
In general, View 3 offers sufficient and acceptable daily operation in consideration of the price, but certainly far from the fluidity and speed of the top of the range. There are some minor lags, and even scrolling in the browser does not fail to stammer. The speed of flash storage also does not offer the maximum of speed, and this can be felt by the fact that heavier apps and games take a little longer to load.
It must be said that with casual titles the terminal does not offer any problems, but when it comes to 3 games, such as PUBG Mobile, the graphic detail must be minimized for sufficient reproduction. Even in this case, however, you will notice drops in frame rate. In short, this is not a terminal suitable for gamers.
Screen
As for the display, Wiko View 3 offers a 6.26-inch LCD screen, in 19: 9 format with a resolution of 1520 × 720 pixels. It is a resolution that, on such a large screen, actually shows some small limitations, but overall nothing that could compromise the use of the terminal anyway. We always remember to have a really cheap smartphone in our hands.
The maximum brightness is around 574 cd / m², which is a really good value, considering the price range, with the presence of the brightness sensor which reacts well to external light changes. Even on sunny days, the display offers enough brightness to read the screen content, even if in direct sunlight, the reflective display makes perfect reading difficult.
While the screen is satisfactory overall, what hasn't convinced us is the bad oleophobic coating on the touchscreen. As typical for an IPS panel, the viewing angle is good, with a slight reduction in brightness at extreme reading angles.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to enjoy HD quality video content using Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other streaming services. On View 3 Widevine DRM level is specified as L3 only.
Camera
And we come, probably, to the most valuable feature on paper of this Wiko View 3. It is a low cost terminal with a triple camera system, which includes a 13 MP and 120 ° wide-angle lens, flanked by a depth lens with a resolution of 2 MP. The main sensor is the 12 MP Sony IMX 486, with a pixel size of 1.25 μm. The image quality of the main camera module with phase detection autofocus is good over this price range, at least in good light conditions.
The result of the shots in optimal light conditions is sufficient, even if it certainly does not compete with the camera phones of the moment. Even the wide-angle lens also offers appreciable results, although in this case you can often notice an excessive saturation, which is somewhat reminiscent of that typical of Samsung. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, also because it could even be preferable to less bright shots. Even the contrast sometimes seems a bit too accentuated, but even in this case the shots are still sufficient.
The shots, we recall, come from a terminal which, at the moment, costs just over 100 euros and, therefore, must be judged on this basis.
The front chamber offers an 8 MP module, with an f / 2.0 aperture. The quality of the shot is good, suitable for multimedia content and snapshots, while the Portrait effect with the front camera offers not too natural outlines. The 12 MP CMOS image sensor used is capable of recording videos in Full HD resolution at a maximum of 30 FPS. If you use the 8MP front lens, you can also record 1080p movies.
Below is a series of shots without post production:
Autonomy
An intense use of the terminal will allow you to arrive in the evening with a residual charge dose of about 20%, while a mild use could even allow you a day and a half of use. The terminal supports 10W fast charging, although it takes more than 2.5 hours to get it from 0 to 100%.
Conclusions
View 3 by Wiko is a good choice for those who want to spend little and have a terminal in their hands that takes good photos. Surely in this price range it is among the most interesting camera phones. Also beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, and good autonomy. On the other hand, Wiko View 3 fails to stand out in the sound field: the speaker offers a cold sound, without bass and overall shallow and enveloping. Even in terms of general performance, the Helio P22 does not excel, and in everyday life there will be small lags or slowdowns in basic activities. The 720p display in 2019 does turn up a bit, but it is still a good unit and a good compromise for increasing autonomy.
It is a smartphone that we would like to recommend to two categories of users: very young, or older. It seems counterintuitive, but it isn't. The younger ones, of course, will have something to do with the photographic department, so that they can flood the social networks with good quality photographs. Older people, on the other hand, will find in View 3 a valid ally with Simple Mode, which activates an interface with large boxes, and makes the terminal really intuitive, easy to use.
