The growth of Xiaomi in recent time as a smartphone manufacturer has been enormous, especially in the last 5 years. The company has gone from being “an affordable alternative” to being the primary option for many users around the world, especially in emerging markets.
Some particular device lines, such as the Redmi Note series, still remain unmatched today and continue to improve, earning Xiaomi a solid following and millions of sales. According to a new report from Canalys, Xiaomi has grown to become the second largest smartphone provider in the world during the second quarter of 2021.
The company was responsible for 17% of smartphone shipments during this period, beating Apple, stuck at 14%, while Oppo and Vivo at 10% each. For Xiaomi, this represents a huge growth, on an annual basis it was in fact 83% despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Obviously it was not the only company to grow during this period, but the numbers of the other brands are smaller, in fact Samsung has grown by 15%, while Oppo and Vivo have grown by 28% and 27% respectively.
Xiaomi's sales strategy has certainly helped to achieve these results, the company sells everything from super cheap smartphones to premium devices like the Mi 11 Ultra, satisfying any category of user .
