In recent weeks we have tried a device whose only “technological” feature lies in the presence of a microUSB socket for recharging the internal battery. This is the Mijia lint remover, whose product identification name is the impractical-to-remember MQXJQ01KL.
How it's made
The shape of this lint remover is comparable to that of most of its competing devices. It has a wide handle made entirely of polycarbonate, white and satin in the front, while it is glossy in the back.
It also has a protrusion, circular in shape, which contains inside a system of rotating blades protected by a metal plate completely covered by holes of two different sizes.
A large section of the handle is empty: this is the lint collection tank removed from the fabrics, while the internal circuits and the battery used for power supply are recessed in the rest of the structure.
On the bottom there is the microUSB socket for recharging the battery while on the back a single, large button allows you to turn the lint remover on and off respectively by starting and stopping the rotation of the blades. A small LED indicator that lights up in white is hidden on the bottom of the back cover, just below the company logo.
What it is used for
As the name itself implies, it is a lint remover, that is a device intended for the safe removal of all those small accumulations of fabric filament that normally are created with the consequent wear of the fabrics.
Whether it is clothes – such as sweaters and coats – or blankets, through the light passage of the blades it is possible to quickly restore the linearity of the initial fabrics, thus restoring a dress or a cloth that is now given up.
How does it work
To use this lint remover correctly, simply turn on the device via the rear button. Parallel to the rotation of the blades, the aspirator will also be activated, whose task is to convey the lint removed inside the special tank.
The lint remover is slightly noisy and its activation generates a slight vibration of the whole structure in parallel. When turned on, simply place the grid delicately on the fabric you intend to clean from lint and move it gently over the entire surface through slow movements and without generating any pressure.
How is it going
It is very important to use it gently because excessive pressure can damage the fabric, especially when dealing with the most delicate ones. In the images describing the product, fabrics such as wool, cashmere and pure silk are mentioned.
These are the fabrics that are most suitable for the use of accessories of this type but which always require you to always act with extreme delicacy to avoid unpleasant inconveniences.
Technical characteristics
We have no experience with this kind of product so we have deepened the subject with a research and a comparison with the other solutions on the market based on the technical data sheets.
Most of the best-selling lint removers offer grids with holes in three different sizes that promise easy removal of lint of different sizes. There are two of them here, but based on our tests they still work well enough.
Some competing solutions offer a blade height adjustment system that is missing here and which should serve for better management of the most delicate garments. In the technical data sheet of the Mijia lint remover, however, there is talk of a distance of 0.35 mm between the grid and the blade, which should ensure a safe cleaning of the fabrics declared by the manufacturer.
The revolutions per minute are not known – given that it appears in some competing devices – but the 90 minutes of autonomy declared for the Mijia lint remover, combined with the system composed of five blades, should still allow a complete and rapid removal of the lint of the fabric that is subjected to it (the same manufacturer declares that the large contact surface allows a fabric to be brought back to its “as new” state with just a few passes).
We also point out that there is a safety system that does not actually allow the lint remover to be turned on – or stops the rotation of the blades if it is already on – if the grid protecting the blades is removed.
In other words, there is a small protrusion connected to a spring system which precisely detects the presence of the cover and prevents the lint remover from becoming a dangerous tool if used without the protective cover.
Conclusions and price
The purchase of the Mijia lint remover is to be evaluated above all in relation to the price for which it is proposed. On Gearbest you can buy it for only 13.54 euros, which is roughly half cheaper than most competing lint removers.
