After seeing and trying the Xiaomi Wowstick precision electric screwdriver, our editorial staff had the opportunity to use for a few weeks Xiaomi Mijia MJDDLSD001QW, an electric screwdriver that goes hand in hand with the first because it is able to take its place in all those situations where there is a need for more power, a different handle and above all it is necessary to tighten or remove larger and stronger screws.
Among its advantages are the pocket-size of the whole package, the manageability and elegance of the screwdriver and the set-up of bits available: but let's go in order.
How is it done
One of the greatest advantages of Xiaomi Mijia MJDDLSD001QW is the external appearance. Not that in instruments of this type this is a priority because we must instead look at something else, but that it is elegant is quite evident: it almost seems like a piece to be inserted in the futuristic wing of a museum.
The external structure is made of polycarbonate with a matte finish and a silky, almost non-slip touch. With its “pistol” shape, it is visually characterized by two cylinders set one inside the other. Much of the weight is concentrated in the upper part, where the motor is presumably located together with the metal frame that rotates the steel head: head which is accompanied by a magnetic system to hold the tips firmly and by an LED ring to illuminate the work area during its use.
On the back of the screwdriver there is a large ring nut with a knurled profile that can be rotated to one side or the other to select the direction of rotation of the head.
The handle, on the other hand, is rather simple: unfortunately, a rubber reinforcement is missing to improve grip but in fact it is not needed because it is already possible to hold well in this way. On the front there is a large button to activate the motor while on the bottom, together with the product label, there is a USB-C port that allows you to recharge the internal battery.
How does it work
The whole system is controlled through the button we were talking about earlier and the rear ring with which to decide the direction of rotation of the tip. When placed in position L, unscrews while in position R it tightens the screws: in the central position, however, the engine is off but the LED light can still be switched on, which is also activated in the other two positions, i.e. when removing or tightening the screws.
The tips
In the package there is a practical box inside which there are 12 tips made of S2 alloy steel and an extension bar to which they can be magnetically fixed when the screws to be tightened or removed are in a position that cannot be reached by the screwdriver.
Almost all the most commonly used tips are present, specifically found:
The tips are kept tidy by a hard rubber insert with custom built holes to keep them locked securely and in place. Unfortunately, the printing of the initials of the various tips is missing but it is something that can be done without because they are still indicated on one side of each of them.
How is it going
Xiaomi Mijia MJDDLSD001QW works very well indeed. The motor is strong enough to be able to tighten and above all extract even the most demanding screws, perhaps blocked by an adhesive solution.
It is able to maintain speed even at the end of the stroke and for this reason it is important to dose the rotation, perhaps with small taps, to avoid that excessive tightening can compromise the stability of the screws in the most fragile components.
The position of the ring nut with which the direction of rotation of the head is controlled is not the easiest: if you proceed with the unscrewing or tightening of several screws in series it is not a problem but if you have to alternate between one screw and another then a selector on the left side, controllable directly by the thumb (and therefore with one hand) would perhaps have been more practical, at the expense of a less attractive design.
On the other hand, the LED light that turns on when the trigger is pressed is very convenient: the illuminated surface is large enough and the light is powerful enough to offer full visibility of the area in which you are working, making it particularly effective in all those situations in which the screwdriver is being used in uncomfortable positions to reach and perhaps even poorly lit.
One of the greatest advantages of this screwdriver is in the power supply: it does not have to be connected to the power outlet (and therefore there is no space and limitation given by the length of a possible cable) because it incorporates a battery that is recharged via USB port -C, therefore also of recent conception as regards the technology used.
For autonomy we do not know how to give you more precise indications than those declared by the manufacturer (tightening or removing about 180 screws with a single charge) as we tried it to completely disassemble an old refrigerator to be disposed of and at the end the screwdriver still had energy. in order to be used in other jobs.
Unfortunately, however, it is not able to work when it is being charged: it would have been very useful to be able to continue to screw and unscrew the screws, perhaps connecting it to a powerbank: we therefore recommend to recharge it well before proceeding with its use so as not to have to interrupt the work. in half.
Conclusions
Xiaomi Mijia MJDDLSD001QW is above all sufficiently powerful and this is the most important reason why it is worth buying it, because with a handy and rather pocket-sized product (among other things it is sold with a very comfortable and compact semi-rigid fabric case. : 16 x 16 x 6 centimeters) you can assemble IKEA furniture and repair the kitchen in a flash.
Retail price
And then Xiaomi Mijia MJDDLSD001QW is also quite cheap: at the time of writing you buy it on Gearbest for about 36 euros with the coupon 4CVWRS113K .
