Home CasaVerdeSmart ,,,,,In the past few hours we have tried the Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light, a lamp with 240 LEDs capable of illuminating even a living room and controllable in three different ways: with the classic wall switch, with the Bluetooth remote control included in the package or via the app for iOS and Android directly from smartphones and tablets.
How is it made
The ceiling light arrives at home well packed inside a cardboard box and protected by a thick layer of polystyrene (1-2 centimeters) that completely covers it. Circular in shape and with a modern, linear and minimal design, it has a diameter of 32 centimeters and is just over 7 centimeters thick, for a total weight (coupling plate included) of about 2 Kg.
The whole structure is made of aluminum, giving it solidity and, as discovered during the tests, also an excellent heat dissipation. In ABS, on the other hand, the quick coupling-release pliers and the opaque cover are made that protects the 240 LEDs (minimum 25,000 hours of life guaranteed by the manufacturer) and gives the ceiling light homogeneous lighting as well as free from reflections and glare if viewed directly.
The construction is great, the exterior metal is also pleasant to touch and painted in a faded green that visually goes very well in offices and modernly furnished environments.
There are two features that struck us and that we particularly appreciated during the assembly phase: first of all, as mentioned above, it is equipped with a very practical coupling system that makes the installation of the ceiling light really child's play. We come from a recent move that has seen us busy more than two days just for the assembly of the chandeliers while with the Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light it is a matter of 5-10 minutes.
Accomplice of this speed, we said, is in the system that simply requires you to push the ceiling light towards the coupling plate. Just do it decisively and two loud “clank” will confirm the successful engagement of the two pliers. To remove it, the procedure is reversed: simply push the two orange levers (visible in the photo) towards the center, then move the ceiling light away from the plate.
The second point in favor lies in the absence of wires even as regards the connection of the two power supply wires. Line (L) and Neutral (N) must be simply inserted into the appropriate holes after pressing the relative button: in fact, the latter will hold the two cables firmly in position, ensuring correct power supply to the ceiling light.

How to mount it
First, turn off the power to the electrical system. It is therefore advisable to work during the day or with a good battery torch.
Unhook the plate for fixing to the ceiling or wall, then position it where you prefer and mark two opposite holes with a pencil. Remove the plate, arm yourself with a drill and make a hole in each marked point of sufficient size to fully insert the two plugs included in the package.
Then replace the plate and tighten the two screws. Now plug the two cables L and N into their respective sockets. Bring the ceiling light closer until it hooks completely.
Reactivate the electrical system: if you have connected the cables correctly, if there are no faults in the line or in the ceiling light, simply press the switch that activates the circuit to access the ceiling light.
How does it work
As we said at the beginning, there are basically three ways in which you can interact with the Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light. Through the wall switch, giving or removing power to the ceiling light, you can therefore turn the LEDs on or off, or there are controls via Bluetooth remote control or via the Yeelight or Mi Smart Home app.
The remote control included in the package, powered by a CR2032 button battery (included) is very well built, nice to touch and hold and allow you to select one of five color temperatures between 2700K and 6500K, therefore being able to heat or cool the light neutral to have warmer and more comfortable lighting for the living room or bedroom or a light that changes to blue tones for the study or kitchen. From the remote control it would also be possible to adjust the brightness, from 0.1 lumens to 2,000 lumens (the maximum obtainable with this model), adjusting the lighting according to the room or the use to be made of it.
The Mi Band Linkage compatibility is also reported in the technical sheet of the Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light, so anyone equipped with a Xiaomi smartband could automate the switching off of the light at the same time you fall asleep. It is also compatible with the recipes on IFTTT in order to be inserted in the automatisms in the home and is Alexa certified, so it can be controlled via Amazon Echo (also supports Google Home).
It is also compatible with Siri commands.

How is it going
The Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light works very well. The IP60 certification offers high protection against dust infiltration while the lighting is so strong that it can easily illuminate a large room during the day.
We have mounted it in the garage, but according to the manufacturer it can easily fit in a living room no larger than 20 square meters.
Conclusions
The Xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light is a complete product that can work both in traditional environments and in a latest generation home where Smart technology is the main control system.
It is easy to install, requires no maintenance and can be controlled either via a wall switch, remote control or from the app. It integrates with Google Home, Amazon Alexa systems and can also be controlled via the Echo speaker, collaborates with IFTTT recipes and can even be turned off automatically when the system understands that we are sleeping: just wear a Xiaomi smartband.
The possibility of adjusting brightness and color temperature make it a product that can be installed in all environments and can be instantly customized according to the needs of the moment.
