Xiaomi youpin 17PIN is a curious product – from a technological point of view – that we have tried in recent days. It is a sort of bottle with built-in blender that works with battery and therefore can be used even when camping, traveling or where it is difficult to find an electrical outlet where to connect the classic blender.

Xiaomi youpin 17PIN consists of two parts. The actual bottle, with a capacity of 300 ml, is made of glass, quite thick and apparently robust. This material has its advantages and disadvantages: if on the one hand it can be washed without any problem even in the dishwasher, on the other it is certainly heavier and more fragile than a polycarbonate solution which, given the type of product, would have been certainly preferable since it will be used mainly when traveling.
The rather bulky cap screws onto the bottle and is instead made of white polycarbonate. It has a button on the upper edge that activates the rotation of the three blades (in steel) only when it is screwed to the bottle – probably the recognition is entrusted to a sensor – thus avoiding being able to activate the blender with the blades uncovered which could turn it into a very dangerous chopper.
Near the engine start button there is a magnetic connector for recharging the internal battery (the special cable is included in the package). Here too the idea of using a system of this type is certainly appreciated as it makes the device waterproof and easier to wash under running water (the motor cannot go in the dishwasher) but it would have been preferable to find a more common microUSB well protected by a thick rubber cap which would have ensured very good protection from water infiltrations.

How is it going
We tried blending an apple, a banana and a kiwi. The first thing to do is peel the fruit you intend to peel and in any case cut it into small pieces, so it will be easier to blend it with Xiaomi youpin 17PIN.
The advice is to proceed a little at a time: in our case we were not able to insert all three fruits at the same time, so we first blended the apple (the hardest of the three) adding a drop of water to help mix. the mush that is going to be created, then we added the banana and the kiwi several times.
The device works well but needs a little help: in fact, if you turn it over and start the blender, at best the engine will start, the blades will slowly make a few turns and then switch off automatically. In other cases, an error message (the LED indicator flashes green) will tell us that something is wrong.
The problem lies in the fact that the blades are not very sharp and, at the same time, the integrated motor is not among the most powerful. Therefore during the process it will be necessary to keep the blender tilted and shake it vigorously with two hands to ensure that the blades are able to blend a few pieces at a time and without suffering the weight of the others.
It took us about ten minutes to blend the three aforementioned fruits and reduce them to a drinkable pulp.

On some subsequent occasions the blender did not work as it should, specifically despite the cap being tightly closed and correctly screwed to the bottle, we were unable to start the blender as the device believed that it was unhooked from the bottle and therefore the anti-start safety system.
We do not know if it is a problem of our specific model or if it could also be common to other units, however it is really annoying because in the last test we were forced to give up using it because the engine did not want to know about it. start.
Conclusions
Xiaomi youpin 17PIN is well built, perhaps too much considering that it will be used mainly on the go and glass is not the best of materials to put in a backpack. The principle idea is good: to allow anyone to make a smoothie in any context. After all, you just need to have it in your bag together with a utility knife to clean the fruit and you will be able to create a healthy fruit smoothie in less than 15 minutes.
Too bad for the lack of motor power that forces you to constantly shake the blender to allow it to do its job without obstacles.
