Cyber Layman has tried YI Outdoor Camera, an outdoor camera to monitor your home: It can also be used inside a room but is designed specifically for outdoor use, thanks to the wall fixing system and the impermeability, which allows it to be exposed to atmospheric agents without fear of damaging it over time.
It is very small and compact, one of the easiest to install and thanks to the data synchronization on the cloud without any subscription, you can use it immediately in combination with your smartphone to check what happens during your absence with notifications and video display in real time.

How is it made
You the room is quite small. Cylindrical in shape, it is 7.5 cm long (6 cm diameter) and is fixed to the wall by means of a plate and 4 plugs (included in the package). It can be oriented in any position thanks to the small arm with built-in ball head and there is only one cable, 3 meters long, to connect to the power supply and use the camera in a few minutes.
structure is made entirely of plastic, apparently very sturdy and white in color, with a very simple and minimal design. Below the camera there is a small door that opens by unscrewing two very small screws and which allows you to access the reset button (should the need arise) and the microSD slot to be able to store the recordings directly on a physical card without go to the cloud.
How does it work
Activation is performed in a few minutes and consists first of all of downloading the YI Home Lite application ( for iOS and Android) on your smartphone, from which you will need to follow the on-screen instructions. You will basically have to scan the QR code printed on the back of the camera with the smartphone camera and then, on the latter, another QR code will be shown which will instead have to be read by the camera itself, previously connected to the mains.
At the end of the configuration, you can adjust the various camera settings by activating for example notifications for motion detection or access the video recording to watch what the camera frames in real time (there is a delay a few milliseconds).
How are you doing
The camera works pretty well. It accurately detects movements and signals them with a delay of a few seconds on the smartphone, announcing the “intrusion” in real time with an acoustic signal even on the spot using the speaker incorporated in the camera.
L The app allows you to take photos or record videos that will be downloaded instantly to the device from which you control the camera or stored directly in the previously inserted microSD, thus having a physical copy of all data even in the absence of an Internet connection.
In case a movement is detected, in addition to the notification, the system records a short video clip to show what has happened even after some time, creating a history with the history of all alerts with date, now and mini-video.
Thanks to the microphone, the camera also captures audio and can connect the user who controls the camera remotely with the people in front of them to it, activating a sort of two-way speakerphone communication.
The menu is very simple as the settings and parameters that can be adjusted are few and essential, making the use of the camera as simple and easy as possible even for the less experienced user.
Conclusions
The video / audio quality is very good, the warning system works pretty well and the ease of installation make this camera an excellent alternative to many other solutions which, on the other hand, offer some what is more but they are also more difficult to configure and control. It offers everything you need and want from a product of this type, especially for the price range in which it is positioned.
There is the alarm in the camera which also acts as a deterrent for thieves, the free cloud storage for filming, is waterproof, offers visibility even at night, the cable is 3 meters long, records in Full HD, there is a speaker, microphone and recognizes movements. Only flaw? The translation into Italian of some menu items leaves something to be desired.
