YouTube is testing a new monthly subscription. It is a more affordable proposal , which works in parallel to the current one, but which follows from some additional functions. The new plan, called “Premium Lite”, was discovered by a user on ResetEra, however, the Internet video giant did not take long to confirm the information. It also specified where it is currently being tested.
A YouTube spokesperson explained that they are testing Premium Lite “in Nordic countries, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg “. He also specified that the new plan, which seeks to “offer more options for users” will have a price of 6.99 euros per month , or its equivalent in local currency.
This means that YouTube Premium Lite is worth around 60% of the current price of the regular version of YouTube's Premium , which is currently of 11.99 euros per month in Europe.
What does YouTube Premium Lite include?
YouTube Premium Lite offers viewing of content without ads on all platforms where the service works. That is, the web as well as smart TVs, video game consoles, applications for iPhone, Android or iPads.
The ad-free playback benefit also comes to the YouTube Kids app. Of course, in all cases the possibility of downloading to the mobile device is lost to consume content without an internet connection.
Nor does it include other functions present in YouTube Premium such as background playback, which allows you to continue listening with the device locked or when working with another application.
Users of YouTube Premium Lite will also not have access to YouTube Music. It is a music playback service for mobiles and computers without ads equivalent to Spotify that is included in the current subscription.
With the aforementioned in mind, YouTube Premium Lite could be a good option for those who just want to get rid of ads in videos. While the new subscription is only being tested in a handful of European countries, the company has made it clear that they could launch new plans based on user feedback. This could lead to a deployment to more countries.
