'Ocean's Eleven' is getting a prequel movie with Margot Robbie

Ocean's Eleven will have a new movie, but this time it's a prequel. According to Variety, Margot Robbie will be one of the protagonists in this new installment. The aforementioned media adds that, although the film has not yet been greenlit for production, it is already in development at Warner Bros.

Until now, we know that the film aims to take place in Europe in 1960. Jay Roach, who previously worked with Robbie in 2019 on the film Bombshell, will be in charge of directing the prequel to the famous robbery franchise. Carrie Salomon, meanwhile, will be the one to write the script for it.

There are still some details to be confirmed. So far, we know that Robbie and Tom Ackerly will be producing the film through LuckyChap. These two are joined by Roach and Michelle Graham, through Everyman Pictures. For their part, Gary Ross, Olivia Milch and Josey McNamara will executive produce the prequel.

More details on the prequel to Ocean's Eleven

Of course, the film has not yet been confirmed by the studio. For this reason, at any time it could end up being canceled. However, in the event that everything follows its current course, the new installment of the Ocean's Eleven franchise is expected to begin production in the spring of 2023; a whole year since the announcement of this news. Meanwhile, Margot Robbie is busy working on famed director Greta Gerwig's version of Barbie; and which is expected to be released in mid-2023.

Just like the original film, 2018's Ocean's 8: The Hustlers is here to show us some of the most recognizable faces in cinema. However, on that occasion it was a cast made up entirely of women; being billed as a gender-swapped version of the original film. Ocean's 8: The Hustlers featured Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway.

In the original film released in 2001 we were able to see movie greats. Among them we have Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. The film, like its new prequel, was based on the year 1960; although it took place in the city of Las Vegas. This would be the scenario where our protagonists would commit their multi-million dollar crime.

Robbie is no stranger to very high-level productions. We have already seen her before in roles like Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad, and being nominated for an Oscar in productions like I, Tonya and Bombshell. In addition to his movie Barbie and the new iteration of Ocean's Eleven, Robbie has other work in production, including Damien Chazelle's Babylon, David O. Russell's Amsterdam, Wes Anderson's Asteroid City and Justin Kurzel's Ruin.
