For the third time since April, the electric car giant Tesla has to recall several thousand vehicles. In total, 107,293 models marketed in China between 2021 and 2022 must return to the garage. The vehicles concerned are Model 3 and Model Y.
This recall is made at the initiative of the Chinese market regulator (SAMR). According to him, an electrical fault that can cause “a slowdown in the speed (of operation) of the central processor” presents a danger to drivers. He adds that the models in question also have malfunctions of the touch screen, a central element of driving on Tesla vehicles.
“In extreme cases, the central processor may restart and the screen may not be displayed (…) which may constitute a danger” specifies the SAMR in a press release published on Monday May 16, 2022.
Serial reminders
In recent months, Tesla has been increasing recalls of its vehicles around the world. In one month, the manufacturer has already had to recall 128,000 vehicles due to component failure. Then, at the end of April, 15,000 other models were affected by a software problem. In this specific case, it was enough for Tesla to deploy an update to correct the problem.
A few days ago, Tesla was also to recall some 129,960 Tesla Model 3, S, Y and Model X from 2021 and 2022. In question? Infotainment system overheating issue.
Including this new Model 3 and Model Y recall, Tesla is on its eighth Model 3 recall and seventh Model Y recall. What if some “recalls” were actually just software updates? others required real returns to the garage. One thinks for example of the problem of opening the hood of the Model Y which presented a major risk of accident for the drivers.
These multiple recalls come as Tesla is already dealing with component shortages causing delivery delays. In China, while the economic capital was implementing a new containment in the face of Covid-19, Tesla had to suspend production during the month of April.
These developments have so far had no impact on the company's turnover. In the first quarter of 2022, Tesla posted record results thanks, in particular, to a rise in prices. Nothing to put off buyers: according to Elon Musk, the delivery book is full until the end of 2023.
