BMW XM: the new 650 hp hybrid SUV on trial

BMW gives some details about its future 100% electric model, the first electrified model from BMW Motorsport. After the launch of the fully electric M Performance models (namely the BMW i4 M50 and the BMW iX M60), the BMW XM (not to be confused with the ancestral Citroën XM of course) presents another facet of electro-mobility in the high-performance model segment, with the first M hybrid drive system.

An XM SUV to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW M

Just a few months after the presentation of the BMW Concept XM, the production version begins its dynamic tests, an opportunity for the German manufacturer to test the performance of this new SUV to come. At this level, the BMW XM SUV is a 4.4L V8 petrol engine, combined with an electric motor, which are responsible for releasing a total power of 650 hp (480kW), with a torque of 800 Nm.

Power transmitted to the four wheels of the beast, thanks to the first M xDrive four-wheel drive system specific to hybrid engines, for immediate action. Equipped with a 100% electric mode, the BMW XM With an electric range of approximately 80 kilometers in the WLTP combined cycle, wants to be comfortable in all circumstances, on daily journeys as well as over longer distances.

An SUV that benefits from a SelectDrive M Pro suspension, which includes specific springs and electronically controlled shock absorbers as well as, for the first time on a BMW M model, an electromechanical roll stabilization system with 48-volt technology. Added to this is ActiveDrive 4-wheel steering, available for the first time on a model developed by BMW M.

Series production of this BMW XM SUV will begin in December 2022, at the BMW Group's US plant in Spartanburg. Note that a more powerful (even!) version of the BMW XM is planned for 2023, with a variant that could offer a total power of 750 hp and 1000 Nm of torque.
